Let us take a look at which teams need to do what to qualify for the playoffs:
Royal Challengers Bangalore: Current Position 2nd
Currently sitting at the 2nd spot on the IPL 2020 points tables after winning 7 matches out of 13 matches in the tournament, Virat Kohli side needs to win their match against Shreyas Iyer led Delhi capitals if they want to make sure they safely enter the playoffs and make the top 2 finish.
If they lose, they will want that Mumbai Indians beat SunRisers Hyderabad and if SRH manages to beat MI, RCB’s Net Run Rate (NRR) will be the deciding factor as they have a better NRR than both 3rd and second position teams, DC and KKR respectively. As of now, RCB’s NRR is -0.145
Delhi Capitals: Current Position 3rd
A win against RCB will cement DC’s place at the playoffs and also the 2nd position on the IPL 2020 points table. A defeat against RCB, on the other hand, will leave them hanging on the outcome of MI Vs SRH match where a win for MI will secure playoffs seat for DC.
If SRH secures a victory against MI, then DC’s Net Run Rate will be the deciding factor. As of now, DC has a better net run rate than KKR, at -0.159.
Kolkata Knight Riders: Current Position 4th
Shah Rukh Khan owned Kolkata based franchise secured 4th position after it defeated Rajasthan Royals by 60 runs, however, their qualification to the playoffs have not been cemented. If SRH loses to MI, KKR will be through to the playoffs, irrespective of the result between the Bangalore and Delhi based franchises.
However, If SRH defeats MI, then even Kolkata’s chances will come down to the Net Rune Rate. Amongst the four teams, KKR has the lowest NRR which stands at -0.214 after 14 matches.
If SRH win, Eoin Morgan-led Kolkata Knight Riders will be hoping DC or RCB to lose the matchby a huge margin.
