Highlights From Serena Williams Vs Danka Kovinic
Williams recently announced that she would stop competing in tennis after the US Open in 2022. Cheers from the crowd greeted her as she entered the court wearing a black outfit covered with diamonds. Despite having a shaky start to her first match, the American managed to jump out to a quick 2-0 lead in the opening set before Kovinic fought back with a break of her own to grab a 3-2 lead in the opening set. Williams won the following three games to win the opening set.

Billie Jean King gave Serena Williams some wise words after she won the first round, but she also got a big surprise from the crowd when King revealed that they had something special in store for the 23-time grand slam singles champion. The 24,000 spectators in the stands raised coloured cards in unison, most of which were blue when King signalled for the crowd gathering at centre court to make the big reveal. “We Love Serena” was written by those dressed in white. Williams reacted by twirling and grinning broadly. On Wednesday, Williams will return to competition in the US Open second round, where she will play Jaqueline Adina Cristian or the second-seeded Anett Kontaveit.
