Haddad Maia has had a great summer, taking home back-to-back championships in Nottingham and Birmingham and reaching the most crucial final of her career in Toronto. In the opening round of the US Open, she defeated Ana Konjuh with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory to gain her maiden victory in the main event.
Andreescu said she preferred playing tough opponents and high-ranked players as it brings out the best of her and keeps her on an A-game. She admits this has pros and cons since she always wants to be like that, no matter who she is against.
Tough draws have always fascinated her, and she feels it heightens the joy of victory in the end.
