7 Things About The Cleveland Cavaliers You Should Know

Even if you’re not a fan, you probably know about the Cleveland Cavaliers’ history. Part of the reason for this is the number of genuine stars who have played for the team. The team perhaps housed the greatest basketball player of all time.

Seeing the Cavaliers on the court in their wine-red, gold, and black uniforms is always a pleasure for home fans. They’ve had tough times, but right now, the team is working hard to find their groove in the NBA.

The Team Has Changed A Few Mascots

Why settle for a single mascot when a team may have two? That’s correct, the Cleveland Cavaliers have two different mascots who roam around the stadium during games. These two are Moondog and Sir C.C., a huge basketball-loving dog and a swashbuckling cavalier.

Cleveland has experimented with several mascots in the past. For a while, the team’s mascot was a polar bear. Whammer is a thing of the past, but he has been known to make brief appearances at home games.

The team boasts two Rookie of the Year Stars

The team drafted two of the greatest basketball stars of today’s time, it should come as no surprise that the team has had two Rookie Of The Year players. LeBron James and Kyrie Irving are the two men who have claimed that title.

After a stellar season, LeBron James won the championship in 2004, and Kyrie Irving did the same in 2012. Regardless of what people think about them now, it’s safe to say that as rookies, they were practically untouchable.

Team colours have evolved significantly over the years

Most NBA fans have a fairly consistent image of the Cleveland Cavaliers in their minds. They have become synonymous with their dark-red apparel, but it wasn’t always this way. The team has had one of the most colourful uniform colour schemes among NBA teams.

They have worn muted tan-like colour, orange, blue, and even black, in addition to red and gold. A glance over their jersey history is interesting and can make some people wonder how confident the Cleveland Cavaliers franchise is in its branding.

One of the NBA’s longest losing streaks

Nobody likes to keep losing. In the NBA, if a team keeps losing for a long time, it can be really bad. Fans might stop supporting the team if they keep losing. Sadly, when LeBron left the Cavaliers, things got really bad for them.

The Cavaliers had a losing streak that went on for 26 games. Only the Philadelphia 76ers had a worse losing streak recently, where they lost 28 games in a row. The 2010-2011 season was one of the toughest times for Cleveland’s team.

LeBron James became the city’s biggest heel

Speaking of LeBron, it’s clear how much Cleveland adored him when he was young. Unfortunately, that love soured when it came time for “the decision,” a moment when LeBron had to decide what was next in his career.

Rather than staying in Cleveland, LeBron opted to play for the Miami Heat for a short time. Cleveland fans were furious with him for this. Even though he returned and helped them win a championship, some Cleveland fans have yet to forgive LeBron.

Drafted some of today’s biggest stars

The Cavaliers aren’t always the top team, but they are good at picking amazing players. Sometimes they pick players for different reasons, not just for their skills in basketball.

They have drafted big names like LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. Both are seen as modern legends in basketball. Many NBA fans believe LeBron James is the greatest basketball player of all time.

The Team had some less famous names

When the Cleveland Cavaliers first entered the NBA in 1970, there was substantial debate over their name. Before settling on The Cavaliers, there were a few other options that were considered. One option was “The Jays,” which might have been confusing since Toronto already had an MLB team named “The Blue Jays.” They also considered “The Presidents,” which is a great name too. However, “The Cavaliers” has a historic and thrilling vibe to it. Most people are content with the “Cavaliers” name, therefore it is unlikely to alter very soon.
