- Ricky Ponting points out a flaw in Prithvi Shaw’s technique
- Prithvi Shaw gets dismissed the same way as predicted by Ponting on the very next ball
- India down 6 wickets after Day 1
On the second ball, Prithvi Shaw went back to the dressing room in the first Test match between India and Australia in the India tour of Australia 2020.
The test match is being played at Adelaide Oval stadium and Shaw’s dismissal made him trend on social media for all the wrong reasons, earning him a lot of criticism and fans questioning his poor shot selection.
Apart from Shaw’s dismissal, another thing that became the talk of the Social Media was how former Australian captain Ricky Ponting also Shaw’s head coach at Delhi Capitals, predicted a flaw in his technique and he got out on the very next ball in the exact same way.
The 45 year old Ponting has spent a lot of time with Shaw in IPL 2020 working at Delhi Capitals and said that Shaw often leaves a big gap between his bat and pad and that is where Mitchell Starc would target him.
As it turned out, Starc did the same and cleaned him up as he tried to drive the ball without proper footwork and getting clean bowled in the failed attempt.

A video posted by 7 Cricket on Twitter had Ponting saying, “He has got a little chink in his armour, I think it’s the ball that does come back in to him. Very comfortable playing the ball away from his body. He does get his head in the line of the ball and plays under his eyes but he doesn’t commit his front foot to the line of the ball a lot. Quite often leaves a big gap between bat and pad and that’s where the Aussies will target. Starc will try and swing one back through the gate”.

It has been some time now that Prithvi Shaw has been seen struggling scoring runs, even in the 2 warmup games he played, he could not impress. However, the team management still selected him in the playing XI for the Day-Night Test match.
Though many praised Ponting for his accuracy, there were more who criticised him for not helping the India batsman, Shaw, getting rid of this flaw despite spending time with him during the 13th season of the Indian Premier League.
In the first of the 4 match Test series, India opted to bat first after winning the toss, but with just 32 runs on the board, lost both its openers. While Prithvi Shaw departed in the first over, Mayank Agarwal battled hard for his 17 runs.
Cheteshwar Pujara and Indian skipper Virat Kohli combined to ensure India does not lose anymore wicket in the first session of the test match.
Post the dinner break, Pujara and Kohli batted with patience and took India past 50 run mark and at the time, Pujara was unbeaten at 29 after facing 127 balls while skipper Virat Kohli was on the crease with 21 runs after facing 63 balls, with the scoreboard reading 71/2.
The first day, however, ended with India at 233/6.
