Chandigarh could not have gotten a better start at Ranji, being first time playing in Ranji, Chandigarh breezed past Arunachal Pradesh by an innings and 173 runs. Gurinder Singh, 27, left arm spinner, took 6 wickets in the third innings and gave just 50 runs in 11 overs. Arunachal Pradesh scored 183 runs in the first innings and in the third innings scored 183 runs before the whole team were sent back to dugout. Chandigarh declared their innings after scoring 503 at a loss of 2 wickets.
Chandigarh’s Arslan Khan scored 233 runs off 236 balls, smashing 33 boundaries and 4 sixes, and stayed not out. Shresth Nirmohi, 28, right arm medium bowler, took 5 wickets in the first innings and 3 wickets in the second innings.
In Saurashtra VS Himachal Pradesh match, Prerak Mankad’s unbeaten 47 steered Saurashtra beat Himachal Pradesh with 5 wickets in hand. A wonderful start for Saurashtra for current Ranji Trophy edition. Saurashtra needed 162 to win, and started the day at humble 93 at a loss of 3 wckets, losing Chirag Jani early. Cheteshwar Pujara too was sent back after scoring 14 runs leaving team at 135 for 5. Mankad led his team to victory as he scored 47 of 78 deliveries and smashing the ball past boundary lines 6 times.
Odisha too won their match by an innings and 3 runs against Chhattisgarh as Suryakant Pradhan Rajesh Mohanty, both, took 4 wickets each. Chhattisgarh lost Avinash Dhaliwal and Jiwanjot Singh early in the game, at 13 and 49 runs on the scorecard respectively. But the Chhattisgarh side fell apart when they lost 8 wickets in succession. The team was 71/3 and at the end only put 78 on the scorecard before getting all out slipping into a humiliating loss.
