Highlights:
- With the India ODI team, Shikhar Dhawan has not performed well lately.
- Dhawan’s performance in the most recent Bangladesh series wasn’t very good.
- Dhawan, who was once India’s go-to player in ICC tournaments, might have played his last game for the national squad.
Shikhar Dhawan was not picked to play for India in the first ODI series of 2023. Dhawan, who was once India’s go-to player in the ODI format of the game, was left off the team that the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee announced. Dhawan recently took part in the ODI series against Bangladesh, although he struggled in India’s 2-1 defeat to the Tigers. This was the only second ODI series defeat for India in the neighbouring nation, after Dhoni’s squad lost in 2015.
Rishabh Pant and Dhawan were both dropped by the selection committee, which made significant alterations to the team. Despite the fact that KL Rahul was there, the committee also appointed Hardik Pandya as the team’s vice-captain, which may indicate a significant change in the status quo.
Saba Karim, a former India selector, had previously stated that Dhawan would need to be dropped from the team if India were to move on with their ODI squad. After Ishan Kishan scored a double century in Bangladesh, that may have been the deciding factor for the left-handed batter.
Does this mean it’s the end of the road for Shikhar Dhawan as an international cricketer? He was a mighty-fine ODI batter and won India many a games and tournaments. It’s really unfortunate if his career ends in this fashion #DoddaMathu #CricketTwitter
