Highlights:
- The World Cup star left the game midway through the first half after clutching his right leg just below the knee as a result of a challenge.
- Video playback showed that centre defender Christopher Jullien had pulled back Sergio Ramos in the seventh minute, and PSG was given a penalty.
After defeating Montpellier 3-1 at the Stade de la Mosson on Thursday, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) widened their lead over the competition in Ligue 1. The injury to Kylian Mbappe, who had missed two penalties in as many minutes, however, cast a shadow over their evening. Mbappe’s penalty effort was blocked by Montpellier’s Benjamin Lecomte in the eighth minute, but the referee called for another attempt. Lecomte, on the other hand, diverted his second attempt onto the post before the France superstar tipped the rebound over the crossbar.

The ailment, according to PSG coach Christophe Galtier, may have been caused by a knock rather than a muscle issue.
We’ll see, Galtier added, “He took a knock to the back of the knee or the back of the thigh.”
He continued, “I’m not too worried. We’re not sure if it’s a contusion or a bruise yet. With the run of matches we don’t want to take risks with a very busy fixture list, but it doesn’t appear that serious.”
