The 23-year-old scored three goals for the Netherlands during the World Cup in Qatar, helping them get to the quarterfinals of the tournament where they fell to eventual champions Argentina on penalties.
The Premier League was mentioned in connection with Gakpo, with Manchester United being said to have shown the most interest. He was on the verge of signing with Leeds United and the Red Devils in the summer.
After the World Cup, there was a spike in interest in the Dutch forward, but Liverpool was able to hold off rival clubs’ interest in signing Gakpo.
PSV announced that they have reached an agreement with the Merseyside club for the sale of the 23-year-old in an official statement on Monday. Gakpo would fly to England right away, according to the announcement, to have a medical exam and finish up other requirements before the transfer.
