Herschel Walker, the Republican nominee for a Senate seat in Georgia, rebuked Biden’s new law aimed at spending billions to address climate change.
President Joe Biden recently signed the Inflation Reduction Action into law.
Days after, Walker made this remark- "They continue to try to fool you like they're helping you out, but they're not.”
"They're not helping you out because a lot of the money is going into trees. You know that, don't you? It's going into trees. We've got enough trees. Don’t we have enough trees around here?” he added.
The bill will raise $700 billion via corporate tax increases and prescription drug savings alongside spending of $400 billion on clean energy and healthcare.
$1.5 billion will be granted to the state agencies and non-profit organisations for “tree planting and related activities”.
No initiative was taken to combat climate change by Biden and Raphel Warnock, said Will Kiley, spokesperson for Walker’s campaign.
Despite criticising climate change, Trump said that the US would join the World Economic Forum’s initiative to plant and protect 1 trillion trees by 2030.
One Trillion Trees Interagency Council was established by Trump in the final week of his Presidency.
