India and Pakistan will start their Asia Cup 2022 campaigns by facing each other on August 28 in Dubai. Since these two teams don’t play bilateral currently, Asia Cup and ICC events are the only instances where India plays Pakistan. And like every other ICC tournament or Asia Cup, there is huge anticipation and interest ahead of the big-ticket clash, even more so for this Asia Cu, as India may play Pakistan thrice. When Pakistan captain Babar Azam was asked about the same and the pressure it would bring in a press conference, he gave a classy response.
Azam said that there is no such thing as pressure. The players always strive to maintain the spirit of the game on the field and that the approach will remain the same as in any other match.
Six teams are split into two groups, with the top two moving on to the super 4s stage from each group. The top two teams will progress to the final after the top four teams compete against one another. Group A includes an unnamed qualifier as well as India and Pakistan. They have a good chance of easily moving on to the super 4 level, which implies that they will do so once more. And they will compete in the final if they can defeat other teams in the super 4 round.

By coincidence, Pakistan defeated India for the first time in a World Cup match of any format the last time these two teams faced off at the exact location. Pakistan defeated India by ten wickets in the T20 World Cup group stage matchup from the previous year.
According to Babar Azam, they will approach the Asia Cup in the same demeanour and form that they take in any other match and try to concentrate on their own game. The players will focus on putting their best foot forward and not let any pressure affect their game.
Notably, India won both India vs Pakistan matches from the previous Asia Cup, which occurred four years ago. If Pakistan had made it to the finals, there would have been three, but they failed to do so. India competed against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup final and defeated them in a nail-biting victory.
A three-match ODI series against the Netherlands will be Pakistan’s final task before the Asia Cup, and India will tour Zimbabwe for a three-match ODI series commencing August 18.
