Highlights:
- In the third One-Day International against West Indies, Shubman Gill struck an undefeated 98.
- India’s innings just lasted 36 overs until it was prematurely overdue owing to heavy rains.
- Meanwhile, Gill registered a spot in an elite group of Indian openers that includes players like Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar.
At the series’ final ODI, which was postponed due to rain on Wednesday in Port of Spain, Team India defeated the West Indies triumphantly by 119 runs to win the match 3-0. India’s Shubman Gill amassed 98 runs while being unbeaten as the team registered 226/3 in just 36 overs. However, the West Indies, who are known for their aggressive batting, faltered in the rain-shortened match and were bowled out for 137 in just 26 overs. Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur each took two wickets, but Yuzvendra Chahal stood out with four.
Because of his steady play in all three ODIs, Gill was chosen as the player of the match and the series. The Indian opener made a strong start in each of the three games and was close to scoring his first three-figure run when rain ended the youngster’s fun.

In the first ODI, the 22-year-old Gill was out for 64 after a careless amount of running, and in the second match, he was out for seven runs less than fifty after giving up a cheap dismissal. In the championship game, Gill displayed greater maturity and took the lead at bat throughout the 36-over innings that was cut short by rain. Gill joined a rare group of Indian openers who had both remained unbeaten on the 90s in ODIs as he was left stranded on 98, though. Big names like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, and Sunil Gavaskar are among those on that list.

After his outstanding performance in the final ODI, Gill acknowledged his displeasure at falling short of the 100-run threshold but stated that he simply played his natural game.
“Was aiming to achieve 100, but I had no control over the rain.” I was shocked by how quickly I was eliminated in the first two ODIs. I made an effort to play the ball and let my instincts take control, said Gill.
