- BBCI revises Indian squad for the tour to Australia
- Rohit Sharma included in Test series while Virat Kohli will only play 1 test match
- Suryakumar Yadav still not in the squad for any format
Indian opener Rohit Sharma has been included in the Test squad for the Australia series by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after its latest meeting which took place on Sunday.
Indian captain Virat Kohli will only be playing the first Test match following which he will rush back to India, given his wife Anushka Sharma is pregnant and would be giving birth to the couple’s first child.
Some of the key updates to the list aside from the addition of Rohit Sharma was the inclusion of SunRisers Hyderabad fast bowler T Natrajan in the T20 series instead of the spinner from the Kolkata Knight Riders Varun Chakravarthy.
The spinner was ruled out due to a shoulder injury.
Additionally, owing to the injury to wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha, who had to miss both the play-off matches for the Hyderabad based IPL franchise, has led the selectors to add the name of Rajasthan Royals batsman Sanju Samson as an additional wicketkeeper to India’s ODI squad for the tour of Australia.
With regards to the pacer Ishant Sharma who is still recovering from an injury, the BCCI release said that he is currently in rehab at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and will only be added to the Test squad for the tour of Australia when he “fully recovers and gains sufficient match fitness”.

The other update made to the squad was the up and coming young fast bowler and KKR player Kamlesh Nagarkoti will not be travelling to Australia as he is still working with the medical team on his bowling workload management, the release says.
The release talked about Rohit Sharma’s fitness, who played in the last two matches for the Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL 2020 campaign, that the opener has been given rest for the ODIs and T20Is in Australia for him to “to regain full fitness”.
Rohit Sharma has also been included in India’s Test squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
