The preparations for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 from Chennai Super Kings have run into serious complications as one of its bowler and some staff members were tested positive for the novel Coronavirus.
Due to this development, the quarantine period of IPL 2020 franchise has now been extended until the 1st of September.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and defending champions of IPL, Mumbai Indians (MI) arrived in the United Arab Emirated (UAE) on the 21st of August 2020 for the 13th ediction of the Indian Premier league.
IPL 2020 is set to begin from the 19th of September.
Three time IPL winners, CSK, held a brief training camp in Chennai before they headed for the UAE. Interestingly MS Dhoni led CSK was the only team which did this.
A total of 60 games will be played during the 13th season if IPL which will start on the 19th September and end on the 8th of November. The games will be played at 3 venues – Abu Dabhi, Dubai and Sharjah.
This is not the first time UAE is hosting the IPL. Back in 2014, UAE had hosted the IPL partially due to the general elections in India.
IPL 2020 could be held because of the postponement of the T20 World Cup in Australia which created a window for this year’s IPL.
Initially, IPL 2020 was supposed to take place in March-May before the BCCI postponed it indefinitely due to the global pandemic.
