In the latest development in the game of Cricket, on Monday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) handed a ban to Umar Akmal for a period of 3 years after he failed to report a fixing offer he received before the commencement of the 5th edition of the Pakistani Super League (PSL), a crime under the board’s anti-corruption code.
A tweet by the Media handle of the Pakistan Cricket Board said, “Umar Akmal handed three-year ban from all cricket by Chairman of the Disciplinary Panel Mr Justice (retired) Fazal-e-Miran Chauhan.”

Akmal was already serving suspension which was handed to him on the 20th February.
Akmal who was entitled to have a hearing before the Anti-Corruption Tribunal declined to do so after he was charged for 2 breaches of Article 2.4.4 of the Anti Corruption Code of PCB in two unrelated incidents.

After he was barred from playing for Quetta Gladiators, he soon saw himself getting sidelined from PSL.
The Article 2.4.4 reads, “Failing to disclose to the PCB vigilance and security department (without unnecessary delay) full details of any approaches or invitations received by the participant to engage in corrupt conduct under this Anti-Corruption Code,”.

Also the Article 4.8.1 reads, “In such circumstances, a hearing before the Anti-Corruption Tribunal shall not be required. Instead, the chairman of the disciplinary panel (sitting alone) shall issue a public decision confirming the offence(s) under this Anti-Corruption Code specified in the notice of charge and the imposition of an applicable sanction within the range specified in the notice of charge.
“Before issuing that public decision, the chairman of the Disciplinary Panel will provide written notice of that decision to the National Cricket Federation to which the Participant is affiliated, the PCB Vigilance and Security Department and the ICC.”
In 2018, Akmal told Samma TV that he was approached by bookies during the World Cup of 2015 to leave 2 deliveries for which he was offered $200,000.
He said that it was just 1 of the offers he was offered in the vast years he played Cricket.
He said, “I had got an offer during the World Cup to leave two balls alone and they were willing to pay me $200,000 for that,”. He also said, “It was our first match against India in the 2015 World Cup […] in fact, every match I play against India, they offer me money to make some excuse and opt out of the game. But I have told those people that I am very sincere about playing for Pakistan and to not talk to me on this topic ever again,”.
