This “Ramayan” Character Inspired Virender Sehwag’s Batting

Highlights:

  • Virender Sehwag names the “Ramayan” character that inspired his batting
  • “Ramayan” is getting telecasted on Doordarshan amid the lockdown imposed across India.

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag told his fans who was his batting inspiration, but before you read any further and you think it was either Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, or even Viv Richards, we are sorry to inform you but you are wrong.

Sehwag tweeted a picture from a scene of the iconic TV series “Ramayan” which is being re-telecasted on Doordarshan and wrote, “So here is where I took my batting inspiration from,” wherein the iconic scene Angad, son of Bali and a member of the Vanara Sena, is standing strong and challenge Ravan’s generals to move his feet.

He concludes, “Pair hilana mushkil hi nahi , namumkin hai (Moving the foot is not just difficult, in fact it is impossible) #Angad ji Rocks”.

The scene in “Ramayan” takes place when Ram sends Angad as his messenger with a peace offering to Ravan as the last chance to return Sita and avoid the war. Angad tells Ravan that Ram and his army will leave Lanka peacefully if Sita is returned unharmed and Ravan apologies to Ram.

However, arrogant Ravan scoffs at the offer and also insults Ram, Angad then places his foot on the ground and challenges Ravan’s courtroom that no warrior of Ravan can move his foot, if anyone does, Ram and his army would return from Lanka right then and there.

However, no single warrior is able to move his leg. And when Ravan himself comes to try, he removes his leg saying “I did not challenge you (Ravan), I challenged your warriors, if you want to hold somebody’s leg, go hold Ram’s leg”.

Doordarshan is currently re-airing the iconic TC show, “Ramayan” and also “Mahabharat” amid the nationwide lockdown which has been imposed as a measure to contain the spread of the novel COVID-19.
