The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is keen on Abdur Razzak becoming the third member of the National Selection Panel as a replacement of Faruk Ahmed and sit alongside Habibul Bashar, and Minhajul Abedin.
BCB officials have confirmed that they did offer the role to Razzak however, he said, he needs time to respond.
Akram Khan, Chairman, BCB Cricket Operations said, “’I have asked Habibul Bashar [selector] to know his [Razzak’s] mind regarding our proposal [of being part of the national selection panel]. Razzak is taking time as he is playing in the DPL [Dhaka Premier League]. We are not sure whether he wants to prolong his career or not,”.
When the media contacted Razzak, he admitted of being offered the role however said that he did not respond yet because of his other commitments with the club in DPL. Nevertheless, as the league is now postponed, he will go over the offer again.
Razzak said, ‘Yes they have contacted me but I wanted some time to decide,”. He added, ”I have told them that I will let them know after the Dhaka Premier League matches. Now as the league is postponed, I can think about this now.
”I have to leave cricket for this new job and it is not an easy decision for me because I am living on cricket for a long time. I have to take time to decide so that later I don’t have any regret whatsoever,” Razzak said.
Razzak is considered as a leading cricketer in the Domestic league and has retired from the limited over format.
Razzak is also the first Bangladeshi cricketer to take 200 wickets in ODIs (One Day Internationals).Though the BCB is considering former left-arm pacer Manjurul Islam and ex-opener for Bangladesh Cricket team Shahriar Nafees for the position currently vacant in the national selection panel, however, neither of them have been approached by the board.
