Early Life: 

Kylian Mbappé was born to Wilfried Mbappé and Fayza Lamari on December 20, 1998, in Bondy, Paris, France. He is of mixed heritage; his father is Cameroonian, while his mother, a former handball star, is Algerian.

Mbappé began playing football at ‘AS Bondy’ when he was six years old, and is now coached by Antonio Riccardi and his father Wilfried. He then transferred to the ‘Clairefontaine’ national football centre, which focuses on developing young French players.

Mbappé’s outstanding performance at ‘Clairefontaine’ caught the interest of world-class clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool. He went to London at the age of 11 to play for Chelsea’s youth team against ‘Charlton Athletic.’ He eventually decided to play for ‘AS Monaco FC’, which competes in the popular French football league, ‘Ligue 1.’

Kylian Mbappé’s older brother’s name is Jirès Kembo Ekoko. Mbappé’s father adopted Ekoko, a professional footballer, when he was young. Mbappé also has a younger brother, Ethan Mbappé. Ethan, who has played for the under-12 ‘Paris Saint-Germain’ club, was Mbappé’s mascot during one of the ‘Champions League’ games.

Ethan inspired Mbappé’s way of goal celebration. In one of his interviews, he stated that his younger brother would celebrate in a similar manner after defeating him in EA Sports’ ‘FIFA’ video game.

Mbappé has participated in philanthropic initiatives. On February 22, 2018, he met with ‘FIFA’ president Gianni Infantino, French President Emmanuel Macron, Liberian President George Weah, and former professional football player Didier Drogba. The meeting, held at the ‘Élysée Palace’ in Paris, was about an African sports development project. In an interview, Mbappé discussed his father’s African heritage and stated that the development of sports in Africa is important to him.
