Jurgen Klopp’s Next Move: 6 Possible Destinations After Liverpool Exit

Jurgen Klopp broke the hearts of Liverpool fans when he announced that he will leave the club at the end of the season. The German manager maintained that he no longer has the energy to manage a club of Liverpool’s stature and that he needs some time off from management.

It’s uncertain how long he’ll be on a ‘sabbatical’, and he may even decide to hang up his coaching badges for good. If he decides to return, he will have no shortage of job offers and can resume working as soon as possible.

In this post, we’ll look at six jobs Klopp may take if he decides to return to management.

1. Germany

As Julian Nagelsmann’s Germany contract nears its expiration this summer, the German team has long been in pursuit of Jurgen Klopp, as Germany’s fortunes have waned after winning the FIFA World Cup in 2014. Klopp has already been connected with the Germany job, and it may finally be time for him to take the job to bring Germany to the pinnacle of European and world football.

The stars seem to have aligned for both parties, indicating a potential union that has been on hold for the right moment. Managing a national team is less taxing than managing a club, which needs a lot of work on a daily basis. So it could be excellent for Klopp, who is likely seeking a more relaxed role.

2. Borussia Dortmund

Edin Terzic’s contract with Borussia Dortmund goes until 2025, but club management will undoubtedly be tempted to make an early move and bring their favourite son back home.

Klopp transformed Dortmund into Germany’s finest team, a level they have yet to reach since he left. Dortmund, who missed out on the Bundesliga title last season on goal difference, have fallen down the table this year and appear to be a long way from challenging for trophies.  If he wants to work for another club, this appears to be a perfect chance.

3. Real Madrid

Real Madrid just extended Carlo Ancelotti’s contract until 2026, and Klopp will have a two-year hiatus if he does not find work until then. Real Madrid has apparently long admired Liverpool’s manager, and with the resources he will have at the Santiago Bernabeu, Klopp has the potential to build a dynasty in Spain.

4. Barcelona

Jurgen Klopp, renowned for transforming teams into challengers with limited resources, could be the ideal choice for Barcelona, which no longer enjoys its once abundant financial resources. Barcelona is currently facing a crisis, and despite Xavi’s efforts to stabilize the team and secure unexpected silverware, this season has seen a significant setback.

If Xavi fails to reverse the situation by the season’s end, Barcelona might be compelled to consider alternative options. Klopp, with his proven track record in rebuilding teams, could become an attractive prospect for the Blaugrana. However, the financial constraints and media attention surrounding Barcelona might pose challenges in luring Klopp to Camp Nou.

5. Bayern Munich

Failure to win the Bundesliga is about as near to a sackable crime as you can get at Bayern Munich, and as things stand, Thomas Tuchel may be concerned about his future in Bavaria.

Bayern likes getting the best German talents, and Klopp is a big name there. They’re probably talking about what to do next at Bayern. While a return to Germany may appeal to Klopp, it is difficult to imagine him refusing his Borussia Dortmund heritage by joining the arch-rival.

6. PSG

It doesn’t really seem like Klopp’s style to lead a club that relies a lot on money and cares more about signing famous players than building a natural way of playing. But, PSG seems to be changing a bit after losing Messi and Neymar. The job still gives a chance to do something no other manager has done – winning the Champions League for Parc de Princes.

They just hired Luis Enrique, and he’s doing well in Ligue 1. But if things go wrong for Enrique by 2025, and PSG contacted Klopp before, it would be a big mistake for the French team not to consider Klopp as their manager.
