The first semi-final of the day will pit Czech Republic’s Karoline Muchova against Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka. Without a doubt, Sabalenka will enter the match as the undisputed favorites. The Belarusian sensation will also try to maintain her chances of topping the WTA rankings.
Sabalenka will be entering the competition after defeating Elina Svitolina of Ukraine in the quarterfinal. On the WTA circuit on Wednesday, Swiatek defeated Coco Gauff of the USA by a score of 7-0. The 22-year-old faced difficulty in the opening set, but she won 6-4, 6-2. The Polish star wants to keep his top spot in the world.
On the other hand, Haddad Maia will be quite confident after defeating World No. 7 Ons Jabeur in the semifinals. In the Open Era, she became the first Brazilian woman to make it past the quarterfinals at Roland Garros. Despite dropping the first set, Haddad Maia went on to win the match 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), and 6-1.
